President's Message
Eng. Granie R Jayalath
It is with great pleasure that I send this message as the President for the session 2024/2025, for the 2nd volume of our SLEN. At the first place I take this opportunity to congratulate editor and the team for bringing up with the 2nd volume of SLEN for the current session.
You all would have been aware that day by day our members are keeping away from IESL and at the beginning of the session there were more than 10000 inactive members, because of this reason we decided to launch an amnesty program which will be there in active mode till end of June 2025. As it was on 1st June 2025 we have been able to get back on board, using all possible reaching tools only 1559 members with an income worth Rs 13.9 million. We have now realized that just by reminding members won’t be effective , instead we need to make IESL an appealing place , a value adding place for their professional carrier development. We need to have a shift over our conventional benefit analysis methods when planning IESL annual events. Investments need to yield intangible returns too, that will make IESL an appealing place to that will boost members professional carrier developments both in short and long terms.
Towards accomplishing this aspiration, we have now developed an investment management framework, among it an event management committee had been established and it is being tasked to ensure that each event yields both tangible and intangible benefits.
At the last AGM a resolution was passed to look into the grievances faced by our members as a result of injustices, victimization due to unfair treatments by our own superiors or due to politically influenced decisions, even without an opportunity given for a fair listening. This silence phenomena are causing our talented engineers to leave the country and other independent and impartial professionals to remain inactive , as their professional deliveries and rationales are not paid any attention.
IESL had now established a committee on Grievances. This new committee is a continuation and will certainly strengthen the effort taken by the previous grievance redress mechanism served as a platform to address such concerns. This committee is tasked with investigating cases of political and professional victimization affecting engineers and the engineering profession. Their findings and recommendations will be submitted to the IESL Council, which will then initiate necessary steps to engage with respective personals or with political authorities within one month of receiving the report. Any member believes, that s/he had been subjected to political victimization or professional injustice, they are now encouraged to submit their grievances officially via email to CEO/Executive Secretary es@iesl.lk .
With this short message I remain wishing you all my heartiest blessings in all your future endeavors
Thank you
